Ain Diab and the Corniche
This is the go-out neighbourhood. Along the ocean, the Corniche is lined with terraces, restaurants and nightlife spots. By day you stroll along the waves; at night, it is where many Casablancans come out, especially at weekends.
A little further on, the Morocco Mall and its large aquarium are a handy option when the weather is bad.
Maarif
Central and very lively, Maarif packs in shops, cafés and restaurants. It is the ideal place for dinner with friends or a long coffee, with lots of places within a small area.
Gauthier
Right next to Parc de la Ligue Arabe, Gauthier is popular for its cafés and trendy spots. The atmosphere is calmer than in Ain Diab: perfect for a first date or a weekend brunch.
Downtown and the Habous quarter
Downtown, around Boulevard Mohammed V, is art deco Casablanca, with the Central Market and its colourful stalls. Near the port, the famous Rick's Café pays tribute to the film Casablanca.
Slightly apart, the Habous quarter has a completely different feel: lanes, craft shops and traditional pastry shops.
Anfa, Racine and Bourgogne
More residential, calmer areas with more upscale cafés and restaurants. Good for a quiet dinner away from the bustle.
Going out alone in Casablanca
Going out alone isn't always easy: you hesitate to walk into a place where you don't know anyone. That is exactly why we created Cipher Nights: you see who is going out tonight in Casablanca, and join verified people who share your energy, at rooftops, bars and parties.
For something calmer, Cipher Groups dinners with strangers seat you at a table of 6 people in a real café in the city.
Getting around at night
- The tram connects several areas, including downtown and the Corniche.
- Red petit taxis are everywhere in the city; agree on using the meter when you get in.
- Ride-hailing apps are handy for getting home late.
Either way, plan your ride home before going out, and tell a friend if you are meeting someone for the first time.
